“If not now, then when… if not you, then who?”

It is the work of creators, those who imagine, design and build pathways towards regenerative futures, to harness the potential to shift culture, heal systems and ignite hope. Culture has always been the most important intervention point to change systems. In this current moment defined by the confluence of crises across all our social and ecological domains - we hold an essential role, as creators of our culture, and one uniquely poised to facilitate the transformation we seek.

What is the Design Science Studio?

The Design Science Studio (DSS) is an educational and cultural incubator and commUnity of practice for (r)Evolutionary creators catalyzing regenerative, equitable and just futures for all life. Since our inception in 2020, 373 creators in the Design Science Studio have incubated 286 projects across 42 countries, each contributing to a movement toward a thriving world.

Our 7-month online curriculum is designed to build the capacity of creators to foster change, by offering an integrated framework for developing our work in the world. Opportunities to gather in person are organized around bioregional hubs and special events.

Now, as we welcome a new wave of (r)Evolutionaries, it’s your turn!

The application portal for the next DSS coheART (cohort) is open.

Our constellation of creators is made up of artists, designers, storytellers, performers, philosophers, ecologists, cultural producers, systems thinkers and more! Our collective quest invites those from around the world who believe that when creativity and collaboration align in service to a life affirming world, we can change the course of history.

Each year the members of the DSS coheART evolve within an ecosystem of practice: a space where creative potential expands, where diverse disciplines intersect, and where imagination fuels real-world change, collaboration and co-creation.

What Our Alumni Are Saying

Over the past three coheARTs, hundreds of creators from more than 42 countries have joined the Design Science Studio to explore how art, story, and design can transform the world.

Here’s what some of them shared about their experience:

R. Buckminster Fuller - designer, inventor, and philosopher - who believed humanity could thrive by aligning art, science, and technology with the principles of nature.

Rooted in the Design Science Decade

Seeded from Buckminster Fuller’s design science framework that considers the whole, to discover system integrity - the Design Science Studio was born at the intersection of Comprehensive Anticipatory Design Science, Regenerative Design, Art and Activism.

In 1965, Bucky initiated the first Design Science Decade: a global effort to redesign the systems that sustain life so they work for 100% of humanity without harm to the planet.

In 2020, the DSS launched the second Design Science Decade: scaffolding creative potential to birth social, environmental and systemic transformation in service to the healing and thriving of all life - people and planet.

The Design Science Studio is a program stewarded by habRitual in pARTnership and fiscally sponsored by the Buckminster Fuller Institute. Together, we carry Bucky’s ideals into modern practice through art, design, science, story and systems change. We are the living continuation of the call from Buckminster Fuller through a global network of creators harnessing the potential of life-centered design science implemented for the success of all life on Earth.

Many incredible pARTners have joined us on our quest. We hope that you’ll join us too!
